Estimate Moving Charges
Prepare yourself a checklist of moving items.
It is always good to plan your relocation. Prepare a checklist of items you want to move from source to destination. Try to put heavy items, like books in small boxes and light items, like linens and pillows in bigger ones. Large boxes packed with heavy items are a common complaint of professional packers and movers. They complain it’s because it only make the job harder and chance of breaking.
How to pack your valuable items?
Packing of your valuable items is an important task in relocation. Here are few tips while packing your valuable items. Always put heavy items on the bottoms of boxes and lighter items on top. And if you’re loading items into the vehicle yourself then pack heavier boxes first and keep it towards front of the vehicle for balance. Always remember don’t leave empty spaces in the boxes. Fill in gaps with clothing, towels or packing paper. Professional packers and Movers often won’t move boxes that feel loosely packed or unbalanced because it can cause damage to items.
Packing and Unpacking
As a professional relocation company we avoid mixing items from different rooms in the same box because it makes our packing quicker and your unpacking a lot easier too. Always label each box with the room it’s destined for and a description of its contents. This will help you and your movers know where every box belongs in your new place. Numbering each box and keeping an inventory list in a small notebook is a good way to keep track of what you’ve packed and to make sure you still have everything when you unpack.
Use quality tapes and try to tape your valuable boxes well. Use a couple of pieces of tape to close the bottom and top seams, then use one of the movers techniques―making a couple of wraps all the way around the box’s top and bottom edges where stress is concentrated.
Complete unfinished business and Liability before relocation
It’s a common problem while relocating from your old place. There are few things we should settle with our neighbor as well as with our service provider. Info your neighbor about your relocation details because if somebody wants to contact in old place will visit your neighbor for getting details of new place.
Contact your phone company regarding the disconnection of your landline or broadband services and settle the final bill. Collect any items outstanding such as laybys, dry-cleaning, shoe repairs etc. Return library books or dvd rentals. Return anything borrowed from neighbors. Cancel any deliveries of papers, milk etc. Empty your garbage bins.
THE BIG DAY
Don’t worry! You are probably well organized even though it may seem otherwise. Carry all valuables and important papers with you. Make sure all taps are turned off. Check electrical switches and lights are turned off. Lock doors and windows and collect all keys (either you can keep it or else give to responsible person before leaving). Check and double check that nothing has been left behind.
